About Charlie Pittaway
During my final year of my undergraduate degree, I began combining my interests in psychology and environmental issues by investigating ways to increase collective action through increasing people’s collective efficacy. Unfortunately, I was unable to solve this problem at that time… but it taught me how stimulating and enjoyable research could be! I spent the next two years getting more experience in environmental research and applied psychology. At the start of 2022 I began my PhD in which I will be investigating the relationships between future-oriented thinking and climate change attitudes and actions. I am particularly interested in understanding the social context of living during the ‘climate crisis,’ and the impacts this may have on values, behaviour, and hope for the future. My research interests outside of this include social change more broadly, and community responses to trauma and healing such as transformative justice.
