William Maley is Emeritus Professor of Diplomacy, Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy, The Australian National University, and author of Transition in Afghanistan: Hope, Despair and the Limits of Statebuilding (London: Routledge, 2018).  His latest book is Australia: The Politics of Degraded Democracy.

​Mario Peucker is an Associate Professor and Principal Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities at Victoria University, and an executive member of the Centre for Resilient and Inclusive Societies (CRIS). His latest book is Democracy Strikes Back: Understanding and Countering the Rise of the Far-right (2024) .

Hugh Possingham is the Biodiversity Council's Co-chief Councillor, former Queensland Chief Scientist, and a Professor of Mathematics and Professor of Ecology at The University of Queensland. He is the author of over 700 peer-reviewed papers (over 35 in Science and Nature), a former Laureate Fellow, and Fellow of the Royal Society (UK).  Hugh will speak on the current trajectory of our ‘natural capital’ and the impacts of extinction and biodiversity loss for future Australian society.
